Woodcock Brothers Brewing Company
This past weekend, a group of us took the gorgeous drive up to Wilson, NY for the Woodcock Brothers Brewing Company blessing of the kegs. If you haven't already heard of this place, you definitely will soon. They are joining the ranks with local breweries such as Pearl Street, Flying Bison, and Community Beer Works and have been doing great business so far.
They opened in the fall of 2012, and hosted an event on Saturday called the "Blessing of the Kegs" in which a group of kegs were blessed to bring in prosperity and success in the forthcoming year. After the blessing, food and festivities were in abundance, and we had an amazing time!
Curious about the start of the brewing company? In a recent article in the Buffalo News, they explain that the company was started by Mark Woodcock and brother Tim Woodcock. The facility was originally a nearly 45,000-square-foot building used for cold storage. It was completely gutted and renovated beautifully into what it is now.
In the article, Tim Woodcock said he has been experimenting with home brews for a decade and now has to ramp it up for the huge system they've installed in the refurbished former basement. The brewing system is gigantic!
The mixture of the metal and wood in the main dining room/bar area gives an industrial yet warm atmosphere. There is a huge wooden table in the middle of the restaurant which would be perfect for a larger party/group of people.
They have a great full menu, from appetizers, to sandwiches and entrees, and their specialty- wood fired pizzas. The pizzas are delicious. I tried the potato pizza (yes, potato!) and it was so good! You wouldn't think that potato is usually something that would go on a pizza, but it actually works!
As you all know, I don't really drink, so I unfortunately did not try the beer. BUT, everyone else around me said that the beer was fantastic. Nicholas had the IPA and bff Krystle was drinking the Cold Storage, and both got rave reviews. According to their website, currently on tap they have Amber, American Pale Ale, India Pale Ale, Porter, Summer Ale, and Cold Storage Ale (in-house only).
They also just added on a banquet section of the restaurant that is available to rent out for private parties!
I highly recommend taking the drive to Wilson to visit the Woodcock Brothers Brewing Company. Good food, good friends, good beer- what else could you ask for?
